The United States Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) was a part of the Department of Justice that literally did Services dealing with Immigration and Naturalization. On March 1, 2003 it ceased to exist, much like Czechoslovakia when Hitler invaded in WW2. Most of its functions were transferred to three agencies within the DHS, namely ICE, USCIS and CBP. However functions dealing with Cuban nationals were transferred to CSI Miami and Puerto Ricans are dealt with by CSI NY.
